Urine Analyzer: ACR – Albumin Creatinine Ratio
Choice to detect chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) at early stage in clinic. ADA recommends annual UACR testing to detect
microalbuminuria in type 1 diabetic patients with Diabetes duration of ≥ 5 years and in all type 2 diabetic patients starting at diagnosis and during pregnancy.
UACR is globally recommended and preferred marker for Microalbuminuria as:
a)It is unaltered by variation in hydration status / urine concentration of the patient
b)Random Urine samples can also be used for the test.

The Microalbumin measurement in random urine sample is affected by the concentration (water content) of Urine. Concentrated urine results in falsely elevated result and diluted urine results in falsely depressed result. In other words, the result with random urine sample may give false positive or false negative result.

To avoid the false positive and false negative results “National Kidney Foundation” has recommended simultaneous measurement of Microalbumin and Creatinine in urine and take the Albumin to Creatinine ration which is referred to as ACR.
